In the local stele forest area, the first stele at the entrance is the work of Mr. Tan Kah Kee. Recently, Mr. Tan Kah Kee’s portrait was added to make the work convey a more complete message.
Wang Longhai, a senior industrial artist who undertook the Stele Forest project, graduated from Jimei University founded by Tan Kah Kee. I once heard that among the many calligraphy works engraved in the local forest of stele, Wang Xianxian only knew Tan Kah Kee. Based on his emotional identification with him, he carved a corner of Jimei University campus behind the stele.
The monument integrates Tan Kah Kee's calligraphy and a corner of Jimei University campus, fully presenting the character and his spirit.
As an overseas Chinese leader, Tan Kah Kee was engaged in rubber and other industries in Malaysia and Singapore. After he became successful, he generously donated money and returned to his hometown to run education businesses. He was known as "ruining a family to build a school." The Jimei University he built formed a school village from kindergarten to junior college. Last October, when I went on a cultural trip to southern Fujian with teachers and students from the Institute of Chinese Studies at UTAR, the tour guide Mr. Huang Yulin explained: "In the era when Tan Kah Kee was growing up, he faced the invasion of Western colonial forces, but he still emphasized that 'secondary schools are the mainstay and Western learning is used.' This is reflected in the architecture of Western-style high-rise buildings and Chinese-style pagoda roofs. Every school building in Jimei School Village has this style."
Jimei Mei Village displays the humanistic aesthetics of architecture through the combination of Western-style high-rise buildings and Chinese-style pagodas.
Every time I leave from the head office Sg. Besi to go to paradise, I pass by The Mines. I have noticed that the roof of this building is a Chinese pagoda building. Thinking about it, it turns out that the same architectural style is used to reflect the persistence of Chinese culture.
