November 30, 2023
On November 30, 2023, twelve Chinese Confucian scholars, including descendants of Confucius, Mencius and many well-known scholars, came all the way to attend the Hui-Confucian Leadership Dialogue Summit, as well as Master Dingci from Jing'an Temple in Shanghai and his followers from Singapore and Malaysia.
The Chinese Humanistic Stele Forest is located in Taoyuan Ancient Town, Nirvana Resort, Semenyih. It was founded by Nirvana Group on the basis of cultural revitalization and inheritance of Chinese culture after integrating the views and opinions of experts from the local cultural, educational and art circles. In order to select representative rubbings of calligraphy inscriptions, the expert advisory team of Nirvana Group has been to Xi'an, China, and Kaifeng Hanyuan Stele Forest since 2009 to inspect hundreds of famous steles or rubbings of famous people and emperors. After repeated identification, they were sent to Quanzhou for engraving. To date, the Chinese Humanistic Stele Forest has 140 square meters of calligraphy steles, covering an area of 20 acres.
Chai Xi, the former Chinese ambassador to Malaysia, once said that the Chinese Cultural Stele Forest of Nirvana Group is one of the largest steles outside China. It gathers works of literati from all dynasties in China, as well as excellent calligraphy works from Malaysia and other Asian countries. It reflects the characteristics of multiculturalism and harmonious coexistence of various ethnic groups. It is a good base for understanding the history of China and the development of calligraphy.
Since the Stele Forest opened in 2012, countless domestic and foreign tourists and students have come to visit and study, and it has become the most respected cultural benchmark.
On November 30, the visitors included: Kong Zhong, the 78th generation grandson of Confucius. Kong Zhong is a descendant of "Ningzhitang", a large family of Confucius. Kong Xianzeng, the seventh generation ancestor, is the second son of Kong Zhaohuan, the Duke of Yansheng. During the Anti-Japanese War in China, his grandfather Kong Lingyu was entrusted by Kong Decheng, the enshrined official of Dacheng's Most Holy Master, to act as an agent for the Confucian government; his father Kong Deyong presided over the compilation of the fifth "Confucius Genealogy" in 1996, which lasted for thirteen years. In addition, there is Meng Bin, the 76th generation grandson of Mencius. Meng Bin has been enthusiastic about social welfare and education all year round. In 2008, he generously sponsored the establishment of the world's first Mencius Institute, and on August 4, 2016, he established the first overseas Mencius Institute at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia. Other Confucian scholars accompanying the delegation include Li Honglei, Chairman of the Boao Confucian Business Forum and Professor of Sun Yat-sen University, Chen Yuanfen, Executive Vice Chairman of the Boao Confucian Business Forum, Wen Haiming, Professor of the Renmin University of China, Wang Jianbao, Assistant Dean of the Institute for Advanced Humanities of Peking University and Research Scholar of the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, Dr. Fan Xinheng, Associate Professor of Guangxi Hezhou University, Lan Shu, founder of Youjian Academy in Hainan, China, Wang Lizong and Tang Huanfan, members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and others.
Dr. Fu Yonggang, Chairman of the Chinese Humanities Stele Management Committee
It was particularly meaningful to meet and have conversations with Professor Li Honglei and his members, the leader of the Hui-Confucian Dialogue Forum, as well as Master Dingci and his colleagues from Shanghai Jing’an Temple in the Stele Forest.
They were all very surprised by the support and protection of their own culture and education by the Chinese here. After visiting the Stele Forest, they were even more impressed by the confidence of the Malaysian Chinese in Chinese culture, because we actually spent huge sums of money to build a cultural treasure in areas outside China, using traditional Chinese calligraphy culture to narrate and inherit the profound history of five thousand years, and in this multi-racial and multi-cultural country, as well as the cultural differences between various ethnic groups, seek common ground amidst differences. They believe that this kind of inclusiveness is very important and fully demonstrates the golden mean of Confucianism.
Chen Jianfa, executive consultant of Nirvana Group and permanent executive consultant of Chinese Humanistic Stele Forest
Many teachers who have led students to the Chinese Humanistic Stele Forest for outdoor teaching said that a trip to the Stele Forest is equivalent to reading a complete study of Chinese philology, because the calligraphy steles here not only cover the Stele Forest of past dynasties in China, but also include the local Stele Forest in Malaysia and the international Stele Forest. They also completely describe the complete evolution of Chinese characters from oracle bone inscriptions to bell script, seal script, official script, regular script, running script and cursive script. Therefore, it is a large-scale living classroom that must not be missed. In fact, in addition to the local colleges, universities, middle schools and calligraphy and art groups that actively organize groups to visit, there are also many groups from abroad. We very much welcome everyone to use the Chinese Cultural Stele Forest for outdoor teaching or various cultural activities. Interested parties can contact Dr Foo (+603-2242 9888).
Former Selangor executive councilor Liu Tianqiu
The Chinese Forest of Humanities Steles carries the profound history of China and gathers the colorful masterpieces of historical figures and calligraphy masters in one forest. This is its fundamental charm in attracting friends at home and abroad.
The forest of Chinese Humanistic Stele Forest displays the beauty of classical spirit everywhere, reflecting that Malaysian Chinese have successfully inherited the profound Chinese culture and shakes the hearts of every visitor.
I sincerely admire and thank all the heroes who have worked hard to build this Stele Forest.
The forest of Chinese Humanistic Stele Forest stands proudly in Nanyang, facing the prosperous Chinese Renaissance. It is actually a business card representing the glorious humanistic spirit of Malaysia.
Professor Li Honglei, Sun Yat-sen University
The Chinese Humanistic Stele Forest is known as the first Stele Forest overseas. It built a long corridor along the water, with stone tablets standing side by side, statues of historical figures, and stone tablets engraved with poems, like thick history books, connecting the vast thousands of years of Chinese culture. The oracle bone inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty, the large pots and cauldrons of the Zhou Dynasty, the Langya carvings of the Qin Dynasty, the Ode to the Stone Gate of the Han Dynasty, the Goose Qun Tie of the Jin Dynasty, the Dragon Gate Statue of the Wei Dynasty, the Duobao Pagoda of the Tang Dynasty, the Manjianghong of the Song Dynasty, the poetry chanting Tie of the Yuan Dynasty, the pipa line of the Ming Dynasty, the discipleship of the Qing Dynasty... It is difficult to list the beauty of the steles in the garden.
On the winding corridors of the garden, Wang Xizhi’s Orchid Pavilion Preface is full of wonderful flowers, Yan Zhenqing’s Qinli Stele is majestic, Liu Gongquan’s Mysterious Tower is charming and strong, Huang Tingjian’s Songfeng Pavilion combines strength with softness; there are also Mi Fu’s brushwork of walking dragons and snakes, Yue Fei’s iron bones, and Zhao Mengfu’s familiarity. As for the customs, Dong Qichang's innocence, Zheng Banqiao's rare confusion, Mao Zedong's eternal song... made the delegation members in a foreign country feel as if they had returned to the spiritual home of Chinese culture, and had a more personal experience of the profoundness and long history of Chinese civilization.
After the visit, I happily took up my pen and inscribed the four-character banner "Tao Chuan Nan Ming" for the Chinese Humanistic Stele Forest to express my respect for Chinese civilization and my tribute to the builders of the Stele Forest. At the same time, there is also a verse saying:
The Tao spreads to Nanming,
cultural beings,
The heart establishes heaven and earth,
Learning continues to the Holy Spirit.
Lan Shu, founder of Youjian Academy in Hainan, China
This huge contribution of the Chinese Cultural Stele Forest will undoubtedly give the new generation overseas who are less exposed to Chinese culture an opportunity to experience the charm of Chinese culture. It will also give visiting Chinese an opportunity for multicultural integration, coexistence, cooperation and development, and is of great significance to the overseas dissemination of Chinese culture.
Cultures exchange due to diversity, learn from each other due to exchanges, develop due to mutual learning, share the beauty and beauty, and keep pace with the times. I will also bring this wonderful Belt and Road Chinese cultural exchange back to the motherland, and do my best to promote mutual understanding and mutual understanding between the people of Malaysia and China, and common development and progress.
