Overview: Deng Shi Ru was the multi-feathered icon of the Qing Dynasty for his unsurpassed command of calligraphy, epigraphy and literature. His well-learned knowledge and skills earned him the reputation of being one of the greatest scholars of that era. The typical calligraphy patterns found in ‘Zi Di Zhi’ are classified as ‘Zhuan Shu’. He wrote it a year prior to his death, at the age of 62. Scholars deem it the most mature work by Deng, in terms of calligraphy strokes, penmanship, width and thinning, angle and fixation. This masterpiece echoes he had reached the peak and therefore it is believed to be the most satisfying work by Deng himself.
