Overview: Huang Guo Bin’s ancestral origin belonged to Xin Hui, Guang Dong. He had a nickname of Xiao Weng. The famous calligrapher was a teacher at a private school in Pajam, Negeri Sembilan. He was one of the committee members and regular judges for Persatuan Seni Tulis Malaysia. Huang soaked up calligraphy from the works of Zhao Meng Fu, Wen Zheng Ming and He Shao Ji in the beginning. He immersed himself in tablet or seal calligraphy of Wei Dynasty as he entered his 70s, drawing inspiration from the great works of the ancient times. He was intrigued by the spirited and down-to-earth attributes of the ancient calligraphy, which were translated into a full-bodied art form through his calligraphy. Huang’s calligraphy characteristics are earnest and full of rustic charms. His Xing Shu calligraphy is well-constructed and solid, technically and spiritually.
