Overview: Yao Tuo hailed from Lu Zhuang, Gong Yi, He Nan. Originally named Yao Tian Ping and nicknamed Yao Kuang, Yao Tuo was an accomplished writer and calligrapher who graduated from China Military Academy. He was the Bureau Chief and Managing Editor for “Zhong Guo Xue Sheng Zhou Bao” (Chinese Students Weekly), “Da Xue Sheng Huo” (The Campus Life), “Xue Sheng Zhou Bao” (Students Weekly) and “Jiao Feng Yue Kan” (Pulses of the South - Monthly). Yao was one of the advisors and founding members of Persatuan Seni Tulis Malaysia. His calligraphy drew inspiration from Wang Xi Zhi and Pu Ru. It demonstrates a vivid and rhythmic profile with vigourous yet aesthetic strokes. The coherence and dynamism are eloquent and diverse at the same time. The composition is fluid and natural. Just as the saying goes, practice makes perfect, Yao’s diligence paid off handsomely as evidenced by his calligraphy that exudes the spirit of a vivid rhythm, in the form of artistic thoughts and feelings. Fraternity members sum up his life with this piece of thought: “He devoted his intelligently endowed life to the blossoming of art and culture, he thus living a fulfilled.”
