Overview: Zhou Man Sha hailed from Chang Sha, Hu Nan and graduated from Hunan First Normal University. He was an educationist, calligrapher and seal-carving expert, who nicknamed himself ‘The Wandering Albatross’ in his later life. Zhou was one of the founding members of Persatuan Seni Tulis Malaysia, who himself was an advisor to the organization. He was also one of the founding members of Penang Art Society. The former secretary-general of Penang Chinese Town Hall (Dewan Perhimpunan Cina Pulau Pinang) taught at the Art and Culture School in Chang Sha earlier. He sailed over to Penang in May 1937 and later became the principal of Yeok Kheong School in Kedah. Together with Ren Yu Nong, they founded ‘Nan Feng’ magazine to criticize the current Chinese government while igniting anti-Japanese sentiments, making his name known widely across northern peninsula. He advanced his teaching career at Min Terk School in 1945 as the headmaster. The reputation of the school was held in high esteem under his leadership, driven by his farsightedness and diligence. This resulted in the establishment of another branch of Min Terk School in 1958. Zhou’s calligraphy exhibits robust strokes and elegant personality.
