Overview: Originally hailed from Fu An, Fu Jian, Master Bo Yuan was given a monkhood name of ‘Li De Fu’. He sought monasticism at the age of 19 through the enrolment at ‘Shi Feng Guang Hua’ Temple, under the tutelage of Master Jin Sheng. He enriched his spiritual journey with another enrolment at ‘Fu Zhou Gu Shan Shi Yuan’ Temple as he entered his 20s, with the guidance from Master Xu Yun. Master Bo Yuan was inducted to Shi Gu Buddhist Institute as a guest speaker of Gu Shan Cong Lin. He came to Penang in 1947. Here, he was honoured with the role of supervisor at Kek Lok Si Temple and lifelong advisor to the Malaysian Buddhist Association. Master Bo Yuan’s calligraphy speaks his own language typical of his style, vigorous and sturdy. It is fundamentally driven by tablet calligraphy that seeks to add a different dimension to creativity. His calligraphy enriches the imagination through the composition of ‘beauty of entirety’. His works ooze a state of ease.
