Overview: “Qin Yuan Chun · Xue” was authored by the former Premier or Chairman of China, Mao Ze Dong (affectionately known as Chairman Mao) in February, 1936. Mao and Peng De Huai were leading the victorious Long March Red Army to cross Huang He (Yellow River) in Qingjian County, Shaanxi. Upon reaching Yuan Jia Gou, Mao was so mesmerized by the snow-capped valley as he scaled the heights of the surrounding mountains to better understand the topography facing his entourage. What appeared before his naked eyes was a sweeping vista brilliantly composed by the expansive white snow. Deeply moved by what he saw, he produced this spirited piece of poetry, which remains one of his most notable poetry works until today. Mao’s calligraphy is accorded the ‘celebrity’ status for both his nation-founding aspirations and the eloquent writing style. His calligraphy works manifest the spirit of courage and individuality, thus befitting his personality.
